Imagine the Possibilities

Thank you, St. Joseph High School, for putting on such an informative and fun open house last Thursday! My husband and I enjoyed the evening and left feeling well informed. For those families that missed “Destination STJ,” here are some of the highlights of the evening.

The program began in the gym with performances by the Starlighters, cheerleaders, band and choir. After the performances, we heard from two senior students and parents of current students. Both gave us their perspective of life at STJ. It was great to hear that the education offered is unparalleled in Victoria and that a sense of family is important to the school. I have only a few short months until I send my first child to STJ and these talks made me feel comfortable and confident with my choice.

After meeting in the gym, we toured the campus in small groups. Students were assigned to lead us from English to biology, technology to information on the Grant Assistance Program, theology to math, and then fine arts and athletics; eight presentations in all. In each location we were told about the curriculum, the benefits at STJ, and what was expected from the students.

At the end, we all met in the cafeteria for refreshments, and to sign up for various extra-curricular activities. My daughter was able to sign up for the sports she wants to participate in, as well as the AP testing that is coming up in April.

It was a whirlwind of an evening with a lot of information to process. Kudos to STJ for a well organized and executed evening that answered many questions and put some worries to rest! I feel more informed and ready to face letting my baby go off to high school in a secure, happy atmosphere that values what I value – a strong education and strong morals.
